Day 34 without sports: The eight best classics to watch this week during coronavirus shutdown

To get through this ever-painful sports drought, TV networks have been transporting us into a time machine to replay the classics that stand as all-time great moments in sports history. They haven’t run out of firepower – yet.

Here’s a look at the best networks have to offer the rest of this week. All times Eastern.

Tuesday (10 p.m.) and Wednesday (9 p.m.) on NBC Sports Network — Michael Phelps’ Olympic gold medal finale at the Rio Olympics. An hour-long special airs first Tuesday capturing a highlight reel of the swimming icon’s fifth and final Olympic Games. Then on Wednesday, Phelps’ Rio performances — five gold medals, one silver — are aired in primetime for a full replay.

Wednesday (5 p.m.) on NBCSN — 2015 NHL Playoffs Game 1 Chicago Blackhawks vs. Nashville Predators. The Blackhawks rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Predators 4-3 in double overtime.

Wednesday (7 p.m.) on ESPN — 2010 NBA Finals Game 7 Celtics vs. Lakers. Vintage Kobe Bryant. The Lakers strike revenge against the Celtics’ Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to claim the NBA title in another epic chapter to the storied rivalry.

Thursday (7 p.m.) on NBCSN  — The Fierce Five claim gold. Before the “Final Five” took the world by storm in 2016, the “Fierce Five” of Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber took the world by storm at the 2012 London Games. Douglas also claimed gold medals in the all-around and Raisman on the floor exercise.

Thursday (8 p.m.) on ESPN — 2016 Michigan vs. Ohio State. A multiple-overtime thriller that decided the fate of the College Football Playoff that season.

Friday (7 p.m.) on Fox Sports 1 — Super Bowl XLII, New York Giants vs. New England Patriots in 2008. In one of the greatest upsets of all-time, an undefeated Patriots team was stunned by Eli Manning and the forever memorable David Tyree catch. It ranks as the second best Super Bowl game of all-time on USA TODAY Sports’ power rankings.

Saturday (10 p.m.) on FS1 — 2004 ALCS Game 4 (New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox. Down 3-0, the Red Sox began their remarkable comeback in the American League Championship Series before winning the World Series and snapping an 86-year curse.

Saturday (10 p.m.) on NBCSN — Usain Bolt’s three gold medals at London. Bolt, perhaps the fastest runner of all-time, won three of his eight gold medals at the 2012 Olympics by claiming the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100-meter relay for Jamaica.

Sports video of the day

On this day last year, a fist-pumping Tiger Woods won his fifth Masters to solidify his comeback. It was his first in 11 years. The embrace with his kids in this video is just epic. CBS aired the replay of the event and Woods told Jim Nantz, “Hadn’t won a major in God knows when — not in their lifetime. For them to see it, feel it, experience it, understand it … but now, because they’re of age, they’ll remember it for the rest of their lives.”
