Real-time updates: Nearly 1,700 positive coronavirus cases in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — As of Friday, the Arkansas Department of Health has confirmed 1,695 positive COVID-19 cases throughout the state.

Gov. Hutchinson said there’s been nearly 150,000 unemployment claims in Arkansas during the coronavirus pandemic.

Commerce Secretary Mike Preston announced a new website for unemployment in Arkansas. The unemployment hotline hours have also been extended to six days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • 22,675 total tests
  • 21,055 negative test results
  • 37 reported deaths
  • 548 recoveries
  • All Arkansas schools are closed for the remainder of the school year

Friday, April 17

1:50 p.m.

Dr. Nate Smith provides the breakdown of the 1,695 cases in Arkansas:  

  • 1,065 active cases
  • 23 on ventilators 
  • 593 recoveries 
  • 228 healthcare workers 
  • 116 nursing home residents 

Dr. Smith also confirmed 83 new positive COVID-19 cases at Cummins Unit, bringing the total to 129.

1:40 p.m.

Gov. Hutchinson said Arkansas has more work to do on cases and on gating criteria. The number of emergency room visits are on a downward trend. 

The governor said if Arkansas gets to Phase One of President Trump’s guidelines, most things will still remain closed, and we still need to distance in social settings with less than 10 people. 

Gov. Hutchinson announced he really hopes to be moving into Phase One on May 4.

In a press conference, Gov. Hutchinson confirmed 1,695 positive COVID-19 cases throughout the state. There are currently 93 hospitalizations.
