One man dead after shooting suspect causes car crash while fleeing Little Rock police

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Little Rock police said officers were in pursuit of a shooting suspect on Sunday afternoon that resulted in a deadly vehicle crash at 36th Street and John Barrow Road.

According to Lieutenant Michael Ford with LRPD, officers were attempting to pull over a suspect identified as 40-year-old Franklin Jones, whom they believed was involved in a shooting on Saturday, April 25, when he fled.

While officers were in pursuit, the suspect’s green van crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of 36th Street and John Barrow road, causing the car that was hit to catch fire.

Police were able to pull a man and his wife from the burning vehicle, both were transported to a nearby hospital. The man died from his injuries and the woman is still recovering but is expected to survive.

Jones was taken into custody and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say there was a passenger in Jones’s vehicle and that individual has been transported to the police station for questioning.
