Sunstar Insurance Group LLC of Memphis said Tuesday that it acquired the Farris Insurance Agency of Springdale, a move that adds 25 employees and doubles the agency’s size in Arkansas.
“This gives us unprecedented statewide coverage, like no other insurance agency here has ever had,” Sunstar CEO Andrew “A.B.” Meadors said in a news release. “Now we cover Northwest Arkansas, Little Rock and Jonesboro. I like to think of it as our version of the famous Triangle Offense.”
Financial terms were not disclosed. As part of the deal, Farris Insurance President Gary Jech is joining Sunstar’s leadership team.
“We’re keeping all our associates. We’re keeping our agency name. So it will be business as usual here,” Jech said. “Plus, we get the benefit of more tools to work with from the Sunstar arsenal.”
Sunstar Arkansas now has 50 employees working from offices in Little Rock, Jonesboro, Helena, Rogers and Springdale. It’s the fifth major expansion of Sunstar in Arkansas since Meadors joined the company in September 2017. That includes acquisitions in Jonesboro and Little Rock.
Sunstar entered northwest Arkansas in 2018 with the hiring of industry veteran Fred Stone as CEO of Sunstar Northwest Arkansas. Stone had held top leadership positions at Rebsamen Insurance and Regions Insurance.
Sunstar Insurance Group was founded in 2012 by Chairman and CEO David “Casey” Bowlin. In 2017, it purchased the property and casualty insurance business of Simmons Bank.
Insurance Journal ranks the company at No. 45 in the country.
