Coronavirus updates: 840 new positive coronavirus cases, 24 new hospitalizations

A new record high of people in the hospital with COVID-19 was reported on Tuesday with 637 total.

ARKANSAS, USA — A new record high of Arkansans in the hospital with COVID-19 was reported on Tuesday with 637 total.

Before Tuesday, the state saw its highest amount of COVID-19 hospitalizations on October 19 with 613 people in a hospital, which then rose to 637 on October 20.

Dr. Romero provides breakdown of new COVID-19 cases by county:

  • Pulaski 62
  • Washington 39
  • Benton 38
  • Craighead 32
  • Crittenden 25
  • Crawford 21
  • Greene 20

Dr. Romero said the numbers indicate that people are not following the mask mandate.

“It’s essential that you follow mask mandate and wash your hands and stay five ft apart,” he said.

The unemployment rate in Arkansas declined from 7.4% in August to 7.3% in September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Arkansas Department of Health reported 840 new coronavirus cases in the state over the last 24 hours.

Of those 840 cases, 628 were confirmed cases and 216 were probable cases.

There have been 14 more deaths from the virus in Arkansas.

A total of 5,439 PCR tests and 2,429 antigen tests were completed over the last 24 hours.

Hospitalizations rose by 24 to set a new record of 637 people hospitalized due to COVID-19.

According to Arkansas Senate Information Officer John Reed, one Senate member and two House members have tested positive for COVID-19. No names are being released at this time.

All meetings scheduled for this week have been cancelled.

Monday, October 19th

The Arkansas Department of Health reported 531 new coronavirus cases in the state over the last 24 hours.

Of those 531 cases, 434 were confirmed cases and 97 were probable cases.

Ten more people have died from the virus in Arkansas.

A total of 8,918 PCR tests and 803 antigen tests were completed over the last 24 hours.

Hospitalizations rose by 41 to set a new record of 613 people hospitalized due to COVID-19.
